Honoring Endings Before New Beginnings & Seasons of Life

Marta Hobbs: Honoring Endings Before New Beginnings & Seasons of LifeFor a while now, I have been “wintering.” Feeling a season of life come to a close – but the new not yet here. Something has been ending. But this time I felt a need to honor the finishing – not rushing into the next thing.

Maybe it was because the year was ending. Maybe because we sold our house in Sarasota, where so much growth happened for each of us in our family; where I dove into healing my trauma; where I wrote my book; where I lived through Covid; where an old dynamic in my marriage shifted… Maybe it was because we almost lost Jim’s dad and so we sat with death and fear. Maybe because I said goodbye to the friends I’ve met here or knew that the next place I’d be living would be without both of my kids. Probably it was all of it and more. Several chapters were closing.

As I packed up boxes for our move – I grieved it all. I let the sadness in and I honored it. Allowing for the process of completion. Tears as my offering in this ritual.

There’s magic in these “in between” spaces – seasons in our life when winter hasn’t quite turned into spring and so we hibernate, nourish and slow down. We rest and we nest and we wait for the new. We reflect and digest what has been. We usually rush through this and jump into the new next season because the waiting is hard. And it was difficult, as sitting with loss always is. But it’s important not to rush the process. To trust it. To honor our own seasons of life – just like mother nature honors hers. I gave thanks for the good. And I let the old go.

Now I can feel the new approaching. I can sense it nearing. I breathe deeply to slow down because I just want to chase it down. My spring will come in her own time – perhaps with the launch of my book, perhaps later. I trust it will come in divine timing and with it a blooming, blossoming and birthing of something brand new.

How beautiful is that?! The flow of life…

The honoring of endings…

The new beginnings…

Have you noticed this in your own life? Let me know. ?
